The Christmas lists that I wrote out when I was a little kid may not have exactly resembled that of the average elementary school-aged girl. Sure, I wanted games. Books. Maybe some computer programs (I was particularly fond of a Rugrats game and an astronomy program). But there was something a little unconventional on there, too: A newspaper for kids. I loved following the news - I mean, how could I not when I watched my grandfather read the paper every day, sometimes more than once. But at that age a lot of the typical news didn't make much sense to me. So naturally I asked for something that did.

Fast forward several years and I was walking across the stage at my university's graduation, a newly appointed Bachelor of Arts with my degree in journalism and a minor in writing and rhetoric. I came from the same journalism program that gave the world Christiane Amanpour and John King, and while I might have walked across the same stage as they did, I knew I'd be walking toward different things. I wasn't meant to follow in their footsteps, thought it would have been an honor to do so.

My love for journalism was growing weaker by the day as graduation approached, and the small newspaper I worked for after college all but diminished whatever was left. But that's a story for another day. Even though all of that was happening, I still needed to write, but for years I couldn't find my voice or the right place for it. That's the purpose of this blog. I don't know where it'll go or what it'll become but I needed a space to call my own.

I'd like to think it'll be a little of everything. I might write about politics today (but probably not). I might write about current events tomorrow. I might write about hockey the day after that. I don't know, but I'll try to give you a reason to stick around and find out.
